HTC: No, HTC One is Not Coming to the Verizon Network

Oh man, what a tumultuous ride it’s been for the long rumored Verizon HTC One. First we heard that it’s not coming, and then we heard rumors that it is coming, and now… well, now it’s been squashed in an official capacity.
Yesterday, via the official HTC Twitter account it was announced that the HTC One will not be available through Verizon. As you can see from the embed tweet below, the HTC social media team directed attention to the Droid DNA instead.
This is certainly fitting, especially considering a device is rumored to hit Verizon with almost the same specs as the HTC One. Many believe this mysterious device will be labeled as the DROID DNA Plus or something similar. If there is such a device, then HTC pretty much told everyone to hang in there with the announcement above.
We did recently talk about a device with the codename “DLXPLUS” that went cruising through the Blutooth SIG. It may not be the One, but at least the rumored specs are near comparable.
This announcement comes just a day after a document leak from Walmart wireless pointing to an HTC One device coming from Verizon. The documents clearly identified that the HTC One will replace the Droid DNA on retail shelves. Although I did write up a report on the leaked documents, I remained skeptical about the One’s arrival. It appears I had good reason to doubt the rumors.
That being said, I’m still curious as to why HTC’s latest flagship will not be available on the Verizon network. It seems a particularly unusual move by Verizon, a company well known to support HTC devices in the past. However, Verizon is also known for exclusivity, which means they could be getting another device from HTC that will only be offered through their service.
At this point, we’re just going to have to wait for further developments to find out what is actually going to happen.
Are there any Verizon Wireless customers out there disappointed by this announcement? This is exactly why I hate rumors, and I dislike how much the news industry relies on them.
