Need a Keyboard but Want Android? Leaked Galaxy M Pro Successor Could Be For You

One of the best things about Android has always been its ability to scale to different form factors and types of devices, not only that but, that manufacturers are allowed to do what they want with the platform. Which leads to some interesting choice in the market, indeed. With all shapes and sizes of devices now running Android, depending on what you want a smartphone for, it’s a safe bet that there’s an Android phone out there for anybody. The Droid line from Motorola and Verizon gives users a large QWERTY-keyboard to type away with physical response, the Galaxy Note line from Samsung will give you massive screen real estate, perfect for reading and taking notes with. If you’re looking for something with the tactile feel of a physical keyboard – a la BlackBerry – then Samsung (and others) have you covered as well, with the Galaxy M Pro being one of the better options.

The Galaxy M Pro was a budget offering launched by Samsung in the Fall of 2011 and it was really no good for anything but chatting and sending SMS messages, which is fine if that’s all you want to do with a phone. It was an awkward device in the first place and we’re not sure why Samsung feel the need to reboot the M Pro line instead of just introducing a new device with a QWERTY-keyboard but, if you really need to have a physical keyboard and don’t the Droid or the Photon Q on Sprint, then this is a good offering.

There’s word that Samsung are bringing a “refreshed” version of the M Pro to market soon with a new device that is known only by model number. The GT-B7810 is to be based around the same figure as the M Pro and doesn’t seem to be bringing many improvements with it. There’s a screen resolution of just 480 x 360 and a tiny battery at just 1,200 mAh. Don’t expect to be IMing all night with this thing but, it’s not the end of the world for a small device such as this. The main attraction when it comes to the M Pro is the apparent inclusion of ICS which might be 1 or 2 versions behind but, for a low-end device like this it’s certainly a welcome addition.

So, what’s the fuss about? This is just a low-end phone from Samsung, right? This is true but, a lot of people are now using tablets for what their smartphones would do, browsing the web, watching videos and that sort of thing. So, having a phone that helps you send messages quickly and easily could be a boon for those looking to carry a lighter – and less expensive – device.
