WYNNCOM G3 MOBILE REVIEW

Wallet-friendly Smartphone Easy on the eye, easy on the pocket

Smartphones are getting more affordable by the day. And now Wynncom is also targeting the low-price smartphone segment with its latest offering, the G3. But does it succeed?

LOOKS: QUITE REGULAR
The front panel is dominated by a 3.5 inch display with three soft keys on the bottom for Back, Home and Settings option. The back panel is textured and houses the camera accompanied by a
flash and the speaker grille. A greyish strip runs around the device. The top includes the lock/unlock key and the 3.5mm audio jack port while the volume rocker keys are on the right. The phone looks decent enough but is unlikely to turn heads.
HARDWARE: ON EXPECTED LINES
The Wynncom G3 has a 1 GHz processor whose performance was decent enough as long as you did not push it too hard. The device was unable to handle heavy games or even apps but easily played HD videos. It comes with around 100 MB internal memory which can be expanded up
to 32GB using a microSD card. This is a dual SIM (GSM+GSM) device that with support for one 3G and one 2G SIM. For connectivity, it includes Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE and GPS. Speaking of battery, the G3 comes with a 1,200 mAh capacity battery that the company claims to deliver a standby time of 140 hours and 4 hours of talktime. Impressive at this price point.
SOFTWARE: STALE GINGERBREAD
The Wynncom G3 runs on Android 2.3 which now is showing its age, as most new budget devices are running on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Wynncom has taken a page out of Fly’s design book and tweaked the interface a bit - the display unlock option comes with the company’s logo in the centre with four options (unlock, camera, calling and messaging). There are five customisable home screens panels, and five fixed keys on the display for Calling, Contacts, Menu, Messages and Browser. On the application front, the device comes with apps like Shazam, Zenga TV,Facebook, Nimbuzz and Moneycontrol pre-loaded.
MULTIMEDIA: NOT RAVEWORTHY
The G3 sports a 3.0-megapixel rear camera and a front VGA camera for video calling. The camera did not excel either in still or video mode. The sound quality was also nothing to talk about although it certainly was adequate. The Wynncom G3 comes with a 4GB microSD card which contains some HD videos that the device played with ease.
USER EXPERIENCE: BUDGET STUFF
The interface is plain vanilla, making it an easy to use device. However, in terms of multimedia, we expected a little more and we would have loved a more recent version of Android. But then it does compensate with the 1 GHz processor that handles most functions well. All of which makes the Wynncom G3 is a value for money device in the Rs 6,000 segment.

WYNNCOM G3 REVIEW RATING

The overall performance of the Wynncom G3 is acceptable, given its price of Rs 5,500. Those looking for an alternative can consider the Micromax A50 available at Rs 4,400 or the Karbonn A5 at Rs 4,999.
